Is Fear or a Lack of Confidence Holding You Back?
Many of us want so much more out of life but fear and a lack of confidence prevent us from breaking out of the comfort zone we have built to try something new and different.
Burn into your brain this great saying:
“If I always do what I have always done, I will always get what I have always gotten.”
What this means is that to change or alter the course of your life, you have to be willing to take risks.
The larger the risk, usually the larger the reward.
My friend Zig Ziglar says that fear is false evidence appearing real and I believe him. After years of not trying new things due to fear, I broke out. I challenged my fears one at a time. Once a fear has been challenged and overcome, you have this great energy and confidence and shot of self-esteem that catapults you to the next fear or risk or challenge.
All growth comes outside of your comfort zone. All new energy comes outside of your comfort zone. All of the excitement and newness in life comes outside your comfort zone.
You don’t have to jump out into the unknown and drown. Just stretch out your current zone a little bit and get your feet wet. Take on a new project or hobby and see how it feels. You will discover your passion and zest is on the outside of that zone and not as much within it.
I often share with others that even in relationships the harm is in getting comfortable. Once you are in that zone you take people and things for granted. You don’t see the newness. You get bored with life. Once you are bored, you are boring, and boring people only get you bored. It becomes difficult to connect with others because the smart people know that boredom is contagious.
Start taking more risks today and I promise you you’ll live a more exciting, more fulfilling and, most important, a more successful life.
